West Indian and African funerals are often
the most colourful and musical events
seen in the cemetery. They can include New
Orleans Jazz bands, but it is often the traditional singing of hymns at the graveside that can provide the powerful
images of the celebration of life.
An equally important part of the graveside service
is the backfilling of the soil into the grave. This is normally done by the family and is a traditional aspect of West Indian funerals. The heavy clay earth of London can make this difficult so we have developed a new area for Caribbean graves with sandier soil.
Another advantage of the new area is that all of the plots are near to the road and therefore can be reached easily by visitors.
Graves can be bought
for the future as well as for immediate funerals.
