The new Roman Catholic area, opened in 1997, is
named after the statue of the Virgin Mary which
overlooks the graves.
The two older Roman Catholic sections at
New Southgate illustrate the strong
relationship between the cemetery and the local
Catholic community. The first funerals at the beginning
of the century were for Irish families, but it
now serves communities from Spain, Italy, Poland
and elsewhere.
Recently, a new road has been laid in the section,
and is surrounded by landscaped lawns and banks.
Graves are prepared with clean grass mats and
lined with flowers to provide a fitting environment for the graveside service.
Graves can be bought
for the future as well as for immediate funerals.
